Review: cd player
we havent used it that much yet but it seems very advanced and it certainly has many options for playing and programing I would think you couldnt find much better for a mutiple cd player we expect to have lots of good use out of it . IT has capabilities of programing tracks you want from 5 cds or just shuffel playing. would recommend buying to anyone

Review: Not reliable
I bought this unit about two years ago, so it's out of its 1-year warranty now. Nice looking unit, with a lot of features, and pretty good sound, although I only used it in very limited ways: I'd load it up, turn it on just before going to bed, and let it run half the night. After a while, it started forgetting about some of the five discs loaded, so I'd get four, then three, then two, and finally none. Resetting/reloading the machine helped, but only temporarily. Now it doesn't recognize any discs, or when it does it will play for a while, get confused, halt, maybe continue, halt again, etc.
Most likely the laser is weak or shot. Inside case is clean, so there's no dust blocking the optics path. Should be a straightforward repair, but Sony's repair policy is to swap the machine out, charging $117 -- nearly the cost of a new unit. My main stereo system has a Sony CDP-345 which I've had for 10 years and has never given me a bit of trouble, so I expected this one to be comparably reliable. I'm very disappointed it it, and with Sony.

Review: I like it.
I like this cd player and have only one complaint. It recognizes the number of tracks on the disc but won't let you select a specific one. You have to move forward by counting the minutes on the disc, which, I think, is a little weird. Otherwise, it's great.
Also, and this is no reflection on the cd player, but on Amazon- On the description page of the cd player, there's a paragraph titled, "What's in the Box". It doesn't tell you that connection wiring is in the box.

Review: High Defect Rate On This Unit
I have had two of these units sent to me and neither worked as advertised. There is a problem with SACD decoding that resulted in the center and sub-woofer channels not receiving a strong enough signal to perceive. The test tone feature of the unit confirms that my cables, amp and speakers are not the problem, since signals sent to the speakers in the test mode cycle loud and clear through the correct speaker at the correct time. Calls to Sony Tech support confirmed the problem was with the SACD player. This is an older, discontinued model and Sony techs admitted to me that it may have issues, especially when used with post-2004 components and SACDs. I'm having to arrange to return the second unit at this point, so I'm pretty disappointed. This is the only Sony product I've ever bought that was not able to perform it's primary function, but hours of troubleshooting have led to the unavoidable conclusion that this unit has a design flaw. Buy at your own risk.
